Potential budget cuts are being discussed right now by County officials, due to a cut in taxes on the state level. The Indiana Legislature has passed a set of property and other tax cuts, due to inflation’s effect—especially on property taxes.
Knox County Sheriff Doug Vantlin operates the biggest department in the County. He says within weeks, he will determine which areas will areas can afford to take some cuts. Vantlin says one place he doesn’t want to cut is in personnel.
The upcoming budget discussion will be for the calendar year 2026, when the tax cuts go into effect.
