Knox County Veterans’ Department director Marty Qualkenbush has been named as this year’s “Spirit of ’76 winner. The aweard is given out each year by the City of Vincennes to someone who meets the criteria for the honor.
Qualkenbush is being honored for getting over three million dollars in benefits for Knox County veterans over his time in the position. In his nomination letter, Qualkenbush was called “a true professional who works for the well being of those who pledged their lives for the United States.” Qualkenbush himself is also a veteran, having served 24 years in the U-S Army.
He will be the Grand Marshal of the Vincennes Fuoirth of July parade. After that is complete, Qualkenbush will be honored in a reception at the Harmony Club on North Second Street in Vincennes.
