The plan for the proposed Emergency Operations Center for Knox County E-911 and some other offices has it a snag. That impasse is cost—a price tag that came in well above the estimate of 2.3 million dollars.
The lowest bid came in over three and a half million dollars for the proposed center. Knox County Commissioner T-J Brink isn’t sure where they will go from here. The lowest the project can go without a complete re-write is around 2.9 million dollars. Even if a rewrite is what it takes, Brink knows the County can’t just keep things as they are.
The E-O-C is planned as the first step in a three-phase County facility improvement. The second phase was a repurposing of the old Jail facility as a new Judicial Center, with the third a 150-thousand dollar onvation of the County Courthouse. HowevER, those plans are also on hold, due to the financial difficulties with the planned E-O-C.
