A heat advisory is in place today, which means people may consider a day o9n the water. However, authorities remind you of a couple of precautions if and when you decide to head to a lake, riverbank, or on the rivers themselves.
Vincennes Police Chief Jon Hillenbrand says no matter whether in the water, or at its border, lifejackets are a needed necessity. Hillenbrand also warms against boating under the influence—both for your time on the water, and when you drive away from it.
Waterways statewide are under the purview of the Indiana Department of Conservation. However, authorities remind everyone the penalty for drunk boating is the same as for drunk driving.
