The Knox County Solid Waste Board has increased the group’s annual property tax levy from 20 dollars to 30 dollars. The increase is only the second in the organization’s history since it started in 2003. The original fee in 2003 was 15 dollars, before it was raised to the former 20 dollar fee.
County S-W-M-D director Michelle Smith says they get a lot out of the money that they receive. Smith remarks the increase is needed, so they can keep the services that they offer the community.
Before the increase, the County’s S-W-M-D had been running at a deficit. With the increased fee, District officials say the shortfall will be covered.
