Teachers’ Salary Actually Declining Statewide

A recent report from the Legislative Services Agency revealed that the median salary for full-time teachers in Indiana has decreased by 3% since 2020, with rural school teachers experiencing a 4-5% decrease.
Some State Representatives are lobbying for an increase in teacher salaries, aiming to raise beginning teachers’ salaries to $55,000 a year. Indiana lags behind neighboring states in average teacher salaries, with the state facing over 1,100 unfilled teaching positions.
