The Red Skelton Art Gallery held a private opening celebration yesterday. The celebration was for various supporters who helped bring the facility to life. It sits next to the Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy; the two facilities, along with the Skelton Performing Arts Theater, are located on the Vincennes University campus. Plans are for the gallery to open to the public starting tomorrow.
Skelton Museum and Art Gallery director Anne Pratt says one future plan for the gallery is to set up a Skelton-based database.
Many of the donations of Red’s art work were provided by Red’s widow, Lothian Skelton. It is the latest in a long line of donations Mrs. Skelton and others have been responsible in donating to continue Skelton’s legacy.
