Ronald Lee Henderson, known affectionately to most as Ron, passed away peacefully at the age of 76 on November 26, 2025, in his hometown of Vincennes, Indiana. Born on December 16, 1948, to the late Norma Jean Freed Henderson and Thomas Robert Henderson, Ron lived a full life marked by devotion to his family, service to his country, and a passion for his many interests.
Ron spent his youth in Vincennes, and upon coming of age, he honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His return to civilian life saw him building a career as a dedicated truck driver for Bierhaus and Sons and later contributing his skills to Tempco of Robinson, Illinois. As a proud and active member of the Teamsters, Ron exemplified the values of hard work and solidarity.
On August 29, 1971, Ron married the love of his life, Margaret “Peg” Frey Henderson, in a beautiful ceremony in Vincennes. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Travis Henderson (Cassandra) of Lexington, KY; Justin “Jug” Henderson (Miranda) of Vincennes, IN; and Melissa Uhte (Ryan) of Indianapolis, IN. The joy of his family life was further amplified by the arrival of his cherished grandchildren: Madeline, Elizabeth, and Katharine Bragg-Henderson; McKenna, Ty, and Kylee Henderson; and Frances Uhte, all of whom will miss their grandfather deeply.
Ron’s commitment to his community was most profoundly demonstrated through more than 25 years of coaching baseball, where he not only taught the sport but also invaluable life lessons to countless young players. His love for recreation extended to the golf course and the card table, where he was always a welcome competitor and a friendly face.
A man of diverse talents and interests, Ron was a true history buff who took pleasure in rebuilding automobiles, a reflection of his appreciation for craftsmanship and legacy. His artistic side shone through his poetry, and he penned a published collection titled The Circle, which will continue to touch readers with its depth and sincerity.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Peg; his children and their spouses; his adored grandchildren; his brother, Richard Henderson of North Carolina; and a sister-in-law, Brenda Qualkenbush of Vincennes. Additionally, Ron is survived by numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, as well as several nieces and nephews. His presence will be greatly missed by those who knew him, but his influence will resonate for generations to come.
As we say farewell to Ronald Lee Henderson, we remember a man whose life was a testament to duty, love, and the pursuit of happiness. His legacy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
