John Eugene Cameron, a beloved husband, father, brother, and cherished member of the community, passed away in Bicknell, IN, on March 25, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on May 22, 1946, in Johnstown, IN, John lived a life filled with adventure, love, and service to others.
John grew up proud of his family, with his parents, Clarence Lee and Gladys “Casey” Cameron, alongside his many siblings. He attended North Knox High School and was part of its first graduating class in 1964. Armed with a passion for learning and practical skills, he furthered his education by obtaining certifications in air conditioning, electrical work, and various other trades, which were instrumental in shaping his diverse career.
John married the love of his life, Roslyn “Chambers” Cameron, on December 23, 1966. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and partnership, spanning nearly six decades. Together, they created a life enriched by family, love, and exploration, raising their son, John Michael Cameron, and their great-niece, Andie Bolander, with unwavering support and guidance.
John served his country with honor in the United States Marine Corps for four years, later continuing his commitment to service through three years in the Reserves and an additional year in the National Guard. His dedication to his country was evident in all facets of his life, instilling values of duty and honor in those around him. Upon completing his service, John embarked on a career as an underground coal miner. His work ethic and dedication provided a solid foundation for his family and demonstrated the importance of hard work and perseverance.
Beyond his professional life, John was a man of many interests and passions. An avid outdoorsman, he found joy in fishing and hunting. Alongside his wife, Roslyn, he embarked on numerous travels that took them across the globe; the Bahamas, on an Alaskan cruise, through the scenic landscapes of Canada, and every state within the United States. Their travels were marked by a love for adventure and an eagerness to explore new horizons, always cherishing the experiences they shared and the memories they created along the way.
John’s presence was a source of light and joy for his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Roslyn, his son John Michael, his great-niece Andie, his sisters Clarice Newton and Elizabeth Cameron of Jacksonville, NC, and his brothers Chris Cameron of Nashville, TN, and Roger Cameron of Amboy, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Annetta, Mary Lee, Carol, and Fred.
John Eugene Cameron’s legacy of love and service lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. His memory will be cherished by all who were touched by his kindness, strength, and adventurous spirit. As his family and friends gather to celebrate his life, they take solace in the knowledge that his journey continues in the everlasting love of those he leaves behind.
There will be a graveside service with military honors by the All Weather Firing Squad held on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Edwardsport Town Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Richard Spaulding.
