Vincennes Police Chief Jon Hillenbrand recently laid out the law on territorial jurisdiction for various departments across Indiana.
Under Indiana law, any officer with any department can technically stop or arrest anyone statewide. Chief Hillenbrand also reminds everyone in some instances, their authority can extend into Illinois as well.
Because of that, local and county police can assist with large events in other communities as needed, and still have full police powers.
