All through the area this summer and into the fall, various farmers’ markets are selling home-grown fruits, vegetables, and meats directly to the public. The sales can come from roadside stands among major highways, or in various farmers’ markets.
The Indiana Legislature has passed new rules aimed at reducing some regulations on those markets. Jasper State Senator Darryl Schmitt tfeels this—and other similar state laws—will be a big benefit to small farmers and vendors across the area.
Overall, the ag industry is a 35 billion dollar contributor to the state of Indiana’s overall economy.
