Janice Elaine “Abel” Fehlinger, age 72, of Vincennes, Indiana, passed away on June 15, 2026, in Vincennes, Indiana. She was born on October 7, 1953, in Vincennes, Indiana, the daughter of Howard and Betty “Qualkenbush” Abel.
Janice graduated from high school and went on to build a life marked by devotion to her family and a warm, steady presence in the lives of those who knew her. She worked as a certified pulmonary technologist, a role that reflected her care for others and her commitment to serving her community. Throughout her life, she was known for her kind heart and the love she shared so freely with her family and friends.
On April 24, 1976, Janice married the love of her life, Douglas Fehlinger, in Vincennes, Indiana. Together, they built a life centered on family, laughter, and lasting memories. Their marriage was a true partnership, and Janice treasured the years they shared together. She was a devoted wife, mom, memaw, sister, and friend whose presence brought comfort and joy to those around her.
Janice loved playing, coaching, and umpiring softball, and she remained connected to the game for many years. She played and coached softball from the time her children were little and continued long after; she took great pride in being part of the sport she loved. Her enthusiasm, knowledge, and encouragement left a lasting impression on many players and families. She also enjoyed gardening, spending time with her grandchildren, and going for rides on the golf cart, simple pleasures that brought her happiness and peace.
She is survived by her husband, Douglas Fehlinger; her daughters, Jamie Fredrick and Stacy Wilson (Chris); her six grandchildren, Collin Fredrick, Brynn Fredrick, Rylann Fredrick, Carter Johnson, Sydney Johnson, and Mason Wilson; her siblings, Jerry Abel (Gladys), Roger Abel (Debbie), Angie Hobson (Rick), Kevin Abel (Lorrie), Greg Abel (Gaye), and Cindy Wright (Steve Jones); and her beloved dog, Lucy. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Jim Abel, Dwain Abel, and Brian Abel.
Janice will be remembered for her loving nature, her devotion to her family, and the many ways she made life brighter for those around her. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the friendships she nurtured, and the countless memories she helped create.
There will be a visitation on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Vincennes Chapel. A following visitation will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Vincennes Chapel, with service following at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Pastor Trevor Murry. Burial will conclude at Memorial Park Cemetery.
