It’s the middle of West Nile virus season and one expert is offering some tips to reduce the chances of getting the virus.
Catherine Hill with Purdue University’s College of Agriculture urges people to remove any standing water from your property because that could be a breeding ground for mosquitoes which can carry West Nile.
When spending time outdoors, she says use EPA-approved repellent and protective clothing.
She also recommends checking window screens for holes where mosquitoes can get into homes.
If bitten, she recommends washing the bite area and not scratching it. In recent weeks, mosquitoes carrying West Nile disease have been found in the area, but no one has been diagnosed with West Nile here at this time.
