Various department heads continue the process toward setting their budget proposals for the 2025 calendar year. Each department will present their funding requests to Knox County Council members during their budget hearing in mid-September.
Last year’s process for this year’s budget was relatively smooth. Right now, Knox County Council president Rich Chattin expects a similar outlook for the coming budget hearings.
The newest big expense is planning for juvenile offender transport costs. That became and issue with the springtime closing of the Southwest Indiana Regional Youth Village. Chattin credits various involved departments, and Council members, for easing some of the burden. Council officials say even with the accommodating moves, the transport bill could reach an estimated 600-thousand dollars for next year.
