The City of Vincennes has received the official word at the Vincennes Levee has been certified by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The certification means federal officials believe it will protect City residents adequately in case of a flood.
Public and private officials have given tens of millions of dollars over 18 years to ensure the Levee would meet federal protection standards. However, Ryan Lough believes now, all the work and money spent is worth it. Lough details the importance of the City Levee as something the community can happily take for granted.
The City first received word about the Levee analysis in 2006. FEMA started a nationwide review of levees following the problems in New Orleans caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
