Vincennes Community Schools have updated the absence policy for its students.
The new parts of the policy allow releases for religious instruction. That is to comply with a recently-approved state law that went into effect earlier this year. The allowance is for no more than two hours per week, and at a time when it affects the student’s education least.
The Board also passed an unexcused absence rule. It requires in part that following five unexcused absences, the school and parents have a conference. That conference is also mandated under state law. The final adjustment is for tardiness include a letter to parents upon five unexcused tardies; when a student reaches ten, it will be followed by a second latter hime, and a possible home visit by school’s liaison.
Board members passed the absence policy updates unanimously.
