The Knox County Commissioners are holding out for at least a week on issuing a burn ban in the county. Some area counties are already under burn bans– including Martin County and Lawrence County, Illinois.
At Monday’s special County Commissioners’ session, the decision was made to wait until the Commissioners’ regular session next week to consider a burn ban. The wait will allow for a possible wet weekend, courtesy of the remnants of Tropical Storme Francine. At this time, the chance of weekend rain ranges from 70 to 80 percent. After the system comes through, the Commissioners will determine if a burn ban need still exists.
