The Knox County Sheriff’s Department is making good use of the recently completed expansion to the Knox County Jail. At this time, the jail numbers are nearling– but not yet reaching– full capacity.
Knox County Sheriff Doug Vantlin says the extra space right now allows them to do some needed maintenance in the original Jail cell blocks. Even with a growing number of inmates occupying both sections of the Jail, Vantlin knows it could be worse.
At last report, nearly 300 inmates are in the Knox County Jail. The new capacity level for the Jail facility is 340.
