The Salvation Army of Vincennes to host “Stuff the Trailer” at Walmart to Help Local Teachers
Vincennes volunteers and community members donate supplies to help local teachers prepare for school year
VINCENNES, IN (July 27, 2026) – Back-to-school season should be an exciting time, but for many teachers, the rising cost of classroom supplies adds extra stress. That’s why The Salvation Army is gearing up to host a three-day “Stuff the Trailer” event at the Vincennes Walmart, located at 650 Kimmel Street, making it easy for shoppers to give back to local teachers preparing for the school year.
On July 31, August 1, and August 8, shoppers at the Vincennes Walmart can grab a few extra school supplies and drop them in Salvation Army collection bins right at the front of the store. Every donation helps a teacher in Knox County head back to class with confidence.
“As I looked for ways we could make an even greater impact in our community, I kept coming back to one group that is often overlooked, our teachers,” said Captain Joey Gates, Corps Officer of The Salvation Army of Vincennes. “While many organizations do a wonderful job helping students, teachers regularly spend their own money on basic classroom supplies. ‘Stuff the Trailer’ is our way of coming alongside these dedicated educators and showing them that our community appreciates the investment they make in our children every day.”
All school supplies collected during the campaign will stay in the local community, directly benefiting 338 teachers throughout Knox County. These donated items, like paper, pencils, tissues, glue, and crayons, will help supply classrooms the first month of school and supplement later needs as classroom supplies dwindle later in the school year.
For more than 40 years, Walmart and The Salvation Army have worked together to meet urgent needs across the country. Today, thanks to retailers s like Walmart, The Salvation Army serves nearly 29 million Americans annually through programs that address poverty, hunger, homelessness, and other critical challenges.
