Indiana State Police Investigating Inmate’s Death at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility

At the request of the Sullivan County Prosecutor, Indiana State Police are investigating the death of an inmate at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility in Carlisle.

Correctional staff found 57-year-old Kevin Carpenter of Churubusco, Indiana unresponsive in his cell early Sunday morning.

They administered first aid, but to no avail.

Investigators suspect foul play and are treating the death as a homicide.

Carpenter had been incarcerated within the Indiana Department of Corrections since February of 2011.

An autopsy was conducted Monday morning at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

Results are pending.
