After a week of preparation and showcases, the Big Balloon Build came to a spectacular end on Saturday afternoon. The week of preparation ended with a well-attended open house at the Highland Woods Center in Vincennes.
The event was put together by Liz Romani and Welsh balloon expert Stuart Davies. Romani says the road leading to the Big Balloon Build goes back several years. In the end, Romani traveled to Wales to participate in their balloon event. After that, Romani started plans for a balloon event of her own — one that started as a balloon fashion fund-raiser for the United Way of Knox County.
The fashion show became part of the overall event; it was held as part of a Friday night gala. The Build featured a “Candy Land” theme, with 125,000 balloons on display at the Highland Woods Community Center.
