Washington Police Equipped with Communication Boards

The Washington Police Department says that through the assistance of the Autism Society of Indiana, the department has issued emergency communication boards to all officers.

Through a grant provided by the Autism Society of America and private donations, the Autism Society of Indiana purchased picture communication boards to be placed in the vehicles of all officers of the Washington Police Department.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office announced earlier it is also equipping its deputies with the communication boards.

The communication boards will help law enforcement communicate with a person who may be nonverbal, have limited English skills, have autism, or have other disabilities or mental health issues.
