The Knox County Highway Department is shutting down use of a bridge crossing the White River as a heavy truck detour to work on U-S 50.
Knox County Highway Superintendent Matt Holden is closing the bridge to heavy traffic, due to a 15-ton weight limit on that span. Holden states heavy truck drivers are using that bridge to bypass the U-S 50 work, and is afraid for the bridge’s safety.
The official detour uses State Road 57, State Road 61, and State Road 241 to by pass the closure. Knox Cuunty Sheriff’s deputies are enforcing the bridge’s weight limit.
The closure is of the westbound lanes of U-S 50 for a culvert replacement. The affected stretch of U-S 50 is in Knox County from Bottom Road to the White River. It is scheduled to re=pen sometime next week.
