The Indiana Department of Transportation has focused on slowing traffic on two highways going through northern Knox County communities. The work this year has affected State Road 67 in Bicknell, and State Road 59 in Sandborn.
INDOT spokesman Gary Bryan says the work in Bicknell is a modified “road diet” to slim the lanes,
Those delineators were also planned for Sandburn. However, large truck and farm vehicle traffic there caused the plan to be scaled back to two delineators—one on State Road 59 at each of the town entrances. Bryan says there, just as in Bicknell, they are using pavement markings to slow down traffic.
INDOT’s goal is to reduce traffic accidents across Indiana by 25 percent within the next decade.
