The process is now underway to move on a three-phase process to re-allocate and build new County government facilities.
The first phase is the construction of a new County Emergency Operations Center. That building would be a new home for the County/s Central Dispatch, along with the County Coroner and the County’s E-M-A director.
Before that starts, though, the building on the site—the former Knox County poor farm—has to be demolished. County Commissioner Trent Hinkle says the building’s new designs are broadly in place. Hinkle expects the old structure to be torn down completely by sometime early in the new year.
The eventual second phase of the plan is to take down the former Knox County Correctional Facility on 8th Street, and make it into a County Justice Center. The third and final phase would be to complete $100,000 worth of renovations to the Knox County Courthouse.
