Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum is still seeking ways to make up for a 1.3 million dollar shortfall the City will face in 2027, due to property tax cuts. Both the Mayor and Vincennes City Council are working toward that remedy in the next year plus to come.
One idea to consider is a long-debated raise in trash fees. Mayor Yochum believes even though a trash price adjustment is coming, he is not sure which route it will take. The other option, other than raising sticker fees, is a monthly flat fee for trash collection. That amount would be placed on a resident’s water bill per month. A further discussion is also possible on a raise in water and sewer rates to generate more water and sewer department revenue. Mayor Yochum believes the coming state budget cuts have left them with no alternative
Work all possible budget cutting and revenue-raising options will conti8nue through the next year, to prepare for the expected losses starting in 2027.
