The Knox County Commissioners approved a motion yesterday declaring October 14th as “Charlie Kirk Day” in Knox County. The day will honor the founder of the conservative-based national group “Turning Point USA.” Kirk was assassinated last month during an appearance in Utah.
The motion was proposed by Commissioner Tim Ellerman the Second, with Commissioners’ president T-J Brink also voting for it. In his comments, Brink calls Kirk’s assassination similar to that of murdered civil rights leader Martin Luther King. Knox County Democrat chair Marsha Fleming disagrees with the proclamation. One of her main arguments is Kirk’s lack of local or state reasoning for him to be specially honored in Knox County.
The vote was 2-0, with Commissioner Kellie Streeter absent.
