The Knox County Commissioners have referred a proposed tweaking of regulations for the current solar ordinance that is in place. The process will have the ordinance go back to the Knox County Area Plan Commission for amendment, with the recommendations coming to the Commissioners for final action. The ordinance will also cover wind-turbine generated power, as well as solar and lithium-ion battery-based plants.
Knox County Commissioner T-J Brink reminds everyone any changes will affect future projects—and not agreements in place now.
‘Several people came out to speak about the issue. Many of them called for widely-expanded setbacks for future “green energy” projects.
The current ordinance, approved in 2020, calls for a 200 foot setback from homes, and 50 feet from property lines. The next sessions of both the Knox County Area Plan Commission and County Board of Zoning Appeals will be in November.
