The Knox County Council is working on the final few touches for its budget for 2026. The budget is now in the hands of state officials; it will come back for final review next month, before it starts on January first.
Knox County Council president Mike Morris believes after the final few issues are settled, the budget will be good for all County workers. Even with this budget complete, the focus turns to the 2027 budget. Various statewide cuts will make the ’27 budget more challenging—and Morris says there are still some fiscal issues up in the air.
Municipal officials also hope next year’s short General Assembly session will provide some relief, as they consider budgets for 2027.
