The Indiana Senate has rejected the redrawing of a new congressional map that was backed by President Trump.
The state Senate voted it down Thursday on a 31-to-19 vote.
It’s a major blow to Trump who had publicly pressured state lawmakers to approve the new district lines. The vote was split between the two area State Senators, with Jasper’s Darryl Schmitt voting for it, and Washington’s Eric Bassler voting against it.
The Indiana House passed the new map last week, but Thursday, 21 Republicans joined ten Democrats to oppose it.
Trump warns he’ll back primary challengers against any Indiana Republicans who opposed the map.
