Washington Community Schools has named Alex Boyd as the new head coach of Washington High School boys’ basketball.
Boyd is a Washington alum and former student-athlete.
The school corporation says Boyd brings strong experience in player development, leadership, and program-building.
Athletic Director Larry Cochren claims Boyd has learned from the best in former Washington coaches Gene Miiller and Brandt Schuckman.
The Vincennes Lincoln Alices move to 4-2 on the year, with an 8-3 conference win over Evansville Reitz. Cooper Collins and Brady Anderson each led with two hits, with Collins leading the way with two doubles in the game. Anderson went five and a third innings to get the victory.
The North Knox Warriors only had four hits, but used 14 walks as part of a 14-0, five inning victory over Eastern Greene. The biggest of those hits was a two-run homer by Carter Becher in the first inning. Kason Oxby also provided two hits for North Knox in the victory.
Levi Pahmeier got the win for the Warriors. North Knox evens its record at 3-3 with the win.
In softball:
The Lincoln Alices move to 10-1 with an 8-6 win over Mater Dei. Mia Hagood had a 3 run homer for the Lady Alices, while Grace Archer also homered for the fifth time this year. Jaelyn Miller got the victory for LHS; they have now won nine straight.
The South Knox Spartans got a game-winning hit from Maycie Linnewebber in a 9-8 win over North Daviess. Lorelai Davis helped lead the way with four RBI on the evening. South Knox goes to 6-3 on the year with the victory.
In tennis:
The South Knox tennis team did not lose a game in a 5-0 victory over Northeast Dubois. Lady Spartan winners were Alli Hayden, Reagan Harrington, and Maggie Vieke, with doubles wins from Halle Carmean and Emily Dreiman, and Eleanor Herb and Elaina Watjen. South Knox moves to 6-0 with the win.
In middle school sports:
Parkview Junior High won a four-team meet last night, defeating North Knox, Barr-Reeve, and Rivet.
North Knox winners included Gage Castle in two events, along with Bentlee McGregor, Kolby Sheren, and the North Knox 32-hundred meter relay team.
