The Illinois Fire Marshal’s office has given around six million dollars to fire protection districts across the Land of Lincoln. Each selected department will get up to 26-thousand dollars in funding for firefighting and ambulance equipment.
In this area, departments in three counties received funding. In Lawrence County, the maximum amount—26-thousand dollars—went to the Bridgeport Fire Protection District. The Lawrence-Allison Fire Protection District received just under the maximum; the third Lawrence County group to be funded was the Lawrence County Ambulance Service, with 16-thousand dollars in funding.
Two other departments also received near the maximum amount. In Crawford County, the money went to the LaMotte Fire District; the other award was to Wabash County’s Mount Carmel Fire District.
The funding was narrowed from 355 applicants, requesting just over eight million dollars in grants.
