Martha “Marty” P. Burnett, age 90, of Washington, Indiana, passed away on June 6, 2026. She was born on August 4, 1935, in Bloomington, Indiana, and lived a long life marked by devotion to her family, her friends, and the many simple joys that brought her happiness.
Marty attended school and later built a steady and dependable career as a secretary for CFS, where she worked faithfully until her retirement in 1998. She was known for her kind presence that made others feel welcome and at ease. Throughout her life, she carried herself with grace, humor, and a genuine care for those around her.
Family was at the center of Marty’s life. She married her husband, Jack Burnett, and later married her husband, Ray Moyer. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands, as well as her parents, James D. and Rose Gretchen “May” Gillaspy, her sons, Mike and Rick Burnett, her infant son, her two brothers, and her sister. Though she endured many losses, she remained a source of strength and love for those who were blessed to know her.
She is survived by her two daughters, Cindy Jackson and Connie Landers, along with her grandchildren, Heather Elliot (Matt), Emily Condra (Chris), Randall Burnett (Deanna), Jeremy Burnett (Ashly), Laura Brown (Tyler), Stephanie Jackson, and Ben Landers, Zack Kramer (Andrea), Erin Kramer (Parker), Ashley Paz (Edgar), Brooke Osman (Stewart), Mason, Riley, Madison, Tatum, and Waylon Burnett, Marley and Lettie Jackson, and Jaylyn and Tyler II Brown, Layton Kramer, Amelia Trowley, Annika and Sadie Paz, and Jackson and Annabelle, as well as her beloved dog, Lucky.
Marty enjoyed an active and joyful life. She loved softball, swimming, biking, volleyball, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She was also devoted to her dog, Lucky, who brought her great comfort and companionship. One of her favorite pastimes was following the band Pickin’ and Grinnin’, as their biggest fan, faithfully attending to hear them play on Wednesday nights. She found friendship and belonging in many places, including the Moose, softball leagues, and the YMCA.
She was also a cherished member of her neighborhood at Sedona Place, where she was more than just a neighbor. She was a friend, a familiar smile, and a caring presence to those around her. Marty was a member of the McDonald’s 6 AM Breakfast Club, where she married her husband, Ray, surrounded by all their friends. Her life was filled with community, laughter, and the kind of connections that leave lasting memories.
Martha P. Burnett will be remembered for her loving heart, her devotion to family, and her spirited enjoyment of life. Her kindness and enduring presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
There will be a visitation on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Fredrick and Son-Gill Funeral Home.
