Dennis Heady, age 78, of Monroe City, Indiana, passed away on June 17, 2026. He was born on December 25, 1947, in Ottumwa, Iowa, and lived a life marked by devotion to his family, his country, and the many simple, steady labors that made him a respected and beloved presence to those who knew him.
Dennis graduated from high school and later attended Indian Hill Community College in Iowa. He answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army, a duty he carried with pride throughout his life. He was deeply patriotic and held a strong respect for service, responsibility, and hard work.
On July 19, 1969, Dennis married the love of his life, Carol “Davis” Heady. Dennis worked in maintenance until his retirement in 2009, and he approached his work with the same dependable spirit that guided every part of his life. He was also proud to have built the house where his family lived for decades, a lasting accomplishment that reflected both his skill and his dedication to providing for those he loved.
Dennis found joy in woodworking and in refinishing furniture, talents he pursued with patience and care. He appreciated the satisfaction of working with his hands and taking something worn and making it beautiful again. He also attended Bruceville Christian Church for many years, where his faith and fellowship were an important part of his life. His quiet strength, steady nature, and kind heart left a lasting impression on those around him.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Heady; his daughter, Melissa Lynn; his grandson, Tanner Lankford (Calyssa); and his siblings, David Heady (Lisa) and Nancy Baird (Doug). He was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Marjorie “Wymore” Heady; his daughter, Daphne Dedrick; and his siblings, Gordon Heady and Sherryl Antle.
Dennis will be remembered for his devotion to family, his strong work ethic, his patriotism, and the many ways he quietly made life better for those around him. His legacy lives on in the home he built, the values he passed down, and the love he shared so generously throughout his life.
