Laura Jean (Gore) Stroud, age 86, of Brownsburg, Indiana, previously of Oaktown, Indiana, passed away on June 29, 2026. She was born on May 7, 1940, in Carlisle, Indiana, and lived a life marked by love of her family and unselfishness.
Jean graduated from Carlisle High School and carried the values of hard work throughout her life. On January 14, 1962, she married her husband, John “Jack” Stroud, and together they built a home filled with laughter and lasting memories.
For many years, Jean worked as a secretary for the Knox County Co-op Oaktown, where she was known for her dependability and steady presence. She took pride in her work and served faithfully until her retirement. Her work ethic and kindness left a lasting impression on those who had the privilege of working with her.
Jean was an avid lover of dogs. She also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Watching college and pro sports, especially IU basketball and football, and playing cards, which brought her many happy moments with family and friends. She was also a member of Shaker Prairie Christian Church.
She is survived by her children, Greg (Caryl) Stroud and Brenda Stroud. Her two grandchildren, Jackson Stroud and Heather (Derek) Cardinal; and her six great-grandchildren, Lillee, Daisee, Poppy, Iris, Ivy, and Huk Cardinal. Jean cherished her family, and her love for them was evident.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her parents, Walter and Mary (Grange) Gore; and her siblings: Alice Horton (Norman), Erma Norris (Earl), and Josephine Pyle (Jim). She was welcomed into eternal rest by those who went before her, and her family takes comfort in knowing they are reunited.
Per her request, Jean will be cremated. A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 20, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Oaktown Cemetery.
