A different type of agricultural presentation is going on this afternoon at the Knox County Fair. The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company is giving the Vincennes Township Fire Department the tire set as part of a pilot program. The award will be highlighted at four this afternoon at the Knox County Fairgrounds.
The tires are made of soybean oil-based rubber. The tires are considered an advantage over regular petroleum-based rubber, especially for winter driving. With the recent dramatic rise in oil prices, ag officials also hope the soy-oil based model may be cheaper to produce.
