Vincennes City Council is still mulling over a possible placement of the Firehouse Flats apartment complex on what is currently the City municipal parking lot. That lot is located north of Vigo Street between Third and Fourth Streets.
A historic development group is looking to place the complex on that spot. Various people have argued against the structure on that land. However, Vincennes City Councilman Brian Grove says funding has been set aside to make up for the parking that would be lost to the development. City Councilman Marc McNeece also reminds everyone that the lot in question was not always a parking area.
Opponents have also raised some logistical concerns about the project, along with the parking worries. Some are also posing possible alternative sites for the new apartment building.
